How to Play the Ohio Pick 5 Lottery

The Ohio Pick 5 runs twice a day, with a fixed jackpot of $50,000 for each draw. To play Pick 5, you must pick 5 numbers, each from 0-9. You must match the 5 winning numbers in exact order to hit the top prize.

You can choose from 9 different playstyles:

  • Straight: You must match all 5 winning numbers in the exact order.
  • Boxed: You can match all 5 winning numbers in any order.
  • Back-Up Bet: Your $1 wager is split between a Straight and a Boxed bet.
  • Front Four: You select 4 numbers (instead of 5), which must match the first 4 winning numbers in exact order.
  • Back Four: You select 4 numbers (instead of 5), which must match the last 4 winning numbers in exact order.
  • Front Three: You select 3 numbers (instead of 5), which must match the first 3 winning numbers in exact order.
  • Back Three: You select 3 numbers (instead of 5), which must match the last 3 winning numbers in exact order.
  • Front Pair: You select 2 numbers (instead of 5), which must match the first 2 winning numbers in exact order.

Unlike the Lottery’s other Draw games, which are pari-mutuel in design (that is, players are vying for a portion of what is in the prize pool), PICK 2, PICK 3, PICK 4, and PICK 5 offer set prize payouts. Therefore, the Lottery has established a $5 million liability limit for PICK 5 for any particular five-digit number in each drawing. Should any five digit combination (for example 77777) be purchased often enough in a single drawing that would result in the liability limit being exceeded, the Lottery will “cut off” further sales of that specific number combination. Players that have already played those numbers will still win the full amount of the set prize even if the liability limit has been met. For more details on this issue, please refer to the Pick 5 game rule subsection (1)(i).
